TRU Volunteer News and Education
CURRENT REQUESTS: Please
review the Volunteer Request Board. There are MANY now available.
As you
are (hopefully) aware by now, we are moving from volunteer database Volgistics
to Better Impact. This will improve ease of use for volunteers and information
management by staff. Please be on the lookout for an
email coming next week directing you how to log in and create your password on
Better Impact. We will inform you
when access to Better Impact is available. Until then, please continue as usual
with logging into the Volunteer Home page to review, accept assignments, and submit
documentation. Training for Better Impact will be provided. Be comforted in
knowing it is very easy to use. Training will be recorded as well for continuous
reference.
COVID
Updates:
·
Testing: The state lab
(where we must send TRU tests) is almost at a standstill. If you can go to one
of the MAKO
sites,
they are currently being assisted by the National Guard – lines are moving much
faster, and results are coming back in 1-3 days. We’ve heard that Kaiser is
also backed up, and that Covid
Check Colorado opened
a new and lesser known site in Longmont.

Personal Health Screening: If you are a patient
and family volunteer doing in-person visits, please ensure
that you are completing a personal health screening before every visit. If you mark that you
feel ill, please cancel your volunteer visit and email volunteer@trucare.org. Volunteers should not
be making visits with symptoms of illness. Care Center volunteers may complete
this screen once for each shift.
Also make sure to conduct
the patient health screening before your visit. If a patient or family member
has any symptom(s) and cannot pass the health screening, please contact Volunteer
Services and Do Not Visit the patient.

Fire Updates:
Our hearts
go out to all the members of our community impacted by the Marshall Fire, and
we are working together to provide resources for these individuals and
families.

Thrift Shop Vouchers: TRU Thrift Shop is offering $50 per person vouchers for people directly impacted
by the Marshall Fire.

Free
Grief Counseling Sessions: TRU Grief Services is offering four free grief counseling sessions for individuals
directly impacted by the Marshall Fire. Contact (303) 604-5300 to request an
appointment with a grief counselor.

Groups
The following are free TRU support groups

Marshall
Fire Weekly Drop-In Group: Wednesdays starting 1/19/22: We invite anyone impacted by the Marshall Fire to join us for
a drop-in grief support group to process your loss in a safe setting with
others. This group will be held on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. starting January 19th,
virtual on ZOOM. Register here

Fire Teen Support Group: Thursdays starting 2/3/22: This group is for teens impacted by the Marshall Fire. It
will be held on Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. starting February 3rd, virtual on ZOOM. This group
will meet for four weeks. Register here

Fire Mindfulness/Meditation Group: Tuesdays starting 1/18/22 - (Led by TRU
volunteers!) - TRU welcomes you with a tender
heart to a mindfulness circle for those impacted by the Marshall Fires. In this
peer-guided group, we will practice mindfulness and compassion-based techniques
that may be supportive to you during this time of grief and transition. No
prior experience with mindfulness or meditation is required. We invite you to
come as you are. It will be held on Tuesdays from 5:50-6:30 p.m. starting
January 18th through April 13th, virtual
on ZOOM. Register here

Facing the
Mourning: 4-Week Program from Heartlight Center: Tuesdays starting 2/4/22: Part class, part
support group, this donation-based program will give you consistent, weekly
support to honor, process, and create milestones through your grief. It will be
held on Tuesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. starting February 15th, virtual on ZOOM. This group

Community Celebration

Lights of Life Celebration: Remote. https://www.trucare.org/lightsoflife2022/
Lights of Life is a
time to memorialize and honor the lives of those we have lost and those in our
community affected by the recent Marshall fire. There will be readings, music,
and a candle-lighting ceremony for clients and the community we serve, as well
as time for reflection and connection.
