Dementia: Advance Care Planning, Directives, and our Future Selves

Zoom via Boulder County’s Age Well Series

Free

One of the most common fears as people age is a diagnosis of dementia. It is normal to worry about losing control of memory, personality, and decisions. Is advance care planning for dementia really possible? Join The Conversation Project in Boulder County to consider what can be prepared before a possible dementia diagnosis as well as how to honor a loved one who is already traveling on the dementia journey. This presentation will address current dementia advance directives as well as effective strategies to share healthcare values with those that matter most.

5/5 Wednesday: TRUvies Movie Night 6:30pm to 8:30pm - Dying Wish: A Dying Doctor’s Decision to Stop Eating and Drinking, Zoom Code: 850 229 3682

80 year old Dr Michael Miller suffers from late-term terminal cancer.  This film explores the personal, social and ethical implications of Miller's decision to discontinue eating and drinking in order to achieve a more peaceful and less lengthy dying process. Dying Wish is a 12 day journey with Michael, his family and his hospice team in an exploration of the final days of his life.  While it is impossible not to be touched by this journey, it is also an educational and deeply thought-provoking film for any caregiver to experience and consider.

6/2 Wednesday:  TRUvies Movie Night, 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The Father

Zoom Code: 850 229 3682

Anthony is 80, mischievous, living defiantly alone and rejecting the carers that his daughter, Anne, encouragingly introduces. Yet help is also becoming a necessity for Anne; she can't make daily visits anymore and Anthony's grip on reality is unravelling. As we experience the ebb and flow of his memory, how much of his own identity and past can Anthony cling to? How does Anne cope as she grieves the loss of her father, while he still lives and breathes before her? THE FATHER warmly embraces real life, through loving reflection upon the vibrant human condition; heart-breaking and uncompromisingly poignant - a movie that nestles in the truth of our own lives.
