Winter, Gratitude, Requests, Calendar

TRU Volunteer News and Education

Winter Has Arrived

On two moments each year—what are called solstices—Earth's axis is tilted most closely toward the sun. The hemisphere tilted most toward our home star sees its longest day, while the hemisphere tilted away from the sun sees its longest night. ... (That's as far north as you can go and still see the sun directly overhead.)

The winter solstice of 2021 occurs today (Dec. 21), marking the official beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and it brings good news: From tomorrow on, days will start getting longer again, taking us out of the darkness as we slowly head towards spring.

Curious

Are thankful and grateful the same?

The Oxford Dictionary defines the word thankful as “pleased and relieved.” Both of those are great feelings. ... The Oxford Dictionary defines the word grateful as “showing an appreciation of kindness.” This is where the difference lies; being thankful is a feeling and being grateful is an action.

All of us in Volunteer Services at TRU Community Care are daily grateful for your active participation and commitment and we are thankful for the opportunity to be a part of your lives. May 2022 bring health, peace, and love. Thank you for all you do for TRU.

TRU Offices will be closed Christmas Eve, Friday, Dec. 24 And New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31. Be safe everyone and Happy Holidays!

Winter Lights of Life Memorial Service

We will also have a virtual option streaming, so you’ll be able to tune in at any time.

Lights of Life is a time to memorialize and honor the lives of those we have lost. There will be readings, music, a candle-lighting ceremony, and refreshments for the clients and community that we serve as well as time for reflection and connection.
