3/3 Wednesday: TRUvies Movie Night: SOUL - Joe Gardner is a school teacher/pianist who has never been able to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional jazz musician. He finally gets the chance after successfully auditioning for legendary singer Dorothea Williams.. On the day of his big debut, though, Joe is distracted and walks right into an open manhole. Realizing that he's dead and is literally on a conveyor belt moving toward the proverbial white light, Joe hops off, landing in the “Great Before” where new souls are created and sent to Earth. While stuck in the Great Before, Joe contemplates his choices and regrets the existence that he mostly took for granted. This latest Pixar film is a good one: pleasant and clever, with a generous heart. 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Zoom Code: 850 229 3682

The Conversation Project in Boulder County at TRU Community Care is pleased to offer all TRU volunteers a free self-paced advance care planning (ACP) program called Get Around TRUIT.  We believe that ACP is vitally important for all adults and want to help you get started or continue the journey.

ACP is a task that falls to the bottom of everyone’s list. People often think this process is for older people or those with serious illness—anyone but ourselves.  92% of adults say it is important to talk about their end-of-life wishes, but only 30% do so. ACP helps give us control in unpredictable circumstances and provides confidence and comfort to those who matter most to us. It is truly a gift. We are here to help you check ACP off your to-do list!

As The Conversation Project founder Ellen Goodman says, “It’s always too early, until it’s too late!”

Get Around TRUIT will begin on 3/8/21and end on 3/31/21. The approximate time commitment over these three weeks is 3-5 hours. You will be able to proceed through the material at your own pace.

We will hold a Zoom kick-off meeting on March 8th from 11-noon to show you all the website, how the program is organized, and answer any questions.  Here is the Zoom link for the kick-off meeting:

https://trucare.zoom.us/j/98604217821

There will also be an optional Open House format event on March 17th from 8am-6pm. We have hour long appointments set aside especially for TRU volunteers to help with questions and guidance.

Program link will be sent to all registrants on March 8th.

3/5, Friday: Book Club: No Pressure/No Diamonds by Teri Dillion. Author joining us live.

At 35 and newly married, psychotherapist and Buddhist practitioner Teri Dillion suspects she knows most of the answers to a satisfying and meaningful life. But once diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) and told to get her affairs in order before facing total paralysis and death, she finds herself pertly booted off all lofty perches of smug psychology and easy equanimity.

Please join us to share with the author your personal reflections from her beautiful book. Bring statements and sentences of the book that spoke to you.  This is a special opportunity to share with the author how the book has touched you both personally and as a TRU hospice volunteer. The author is limited as to how long she can participate on the Zoom call given her current health condition and energy level and will be listening to you all.

Zoom Code: 850 229 3682

Dick Johnson is dead. May his soul rest in peace. He will always be in our prayers… even though Dick Johnson is not yet dead.  Dick Johnson is a pleasant and cheerful man who makes you want to hug him. His daughter, documentary filmmaker Kirsten Johnson, can’t fathom the idea that his joie de vivre and kindness will forever disappear from this world. So to face her worst fears, she decided to make a movie about him because, maybe, in that way, Dick Johnson will live forever in both our hearts and eyes. But instead of interviewing him or using old home movies, Kirsten has asked her father to participate in his own fake funeral and to perform in some elaborate death scenes. Our culture is so afraid of death that we seldom approach it in such an open and honest way. This film is a reminder that death is rarely controlled and goodbyes should never be put off.
