2/12, Friday: VC Zoom Presentation: Donor Alliance: Mallory McClain, Learning & Development Specialist Join us on Friday, February 12 for an overview of organ and tissue donation presented by Donor Alliance. Learning & Development Specialist, Mallory McClain, will explain who Donor Alliance is, how the donation process works, what some common myths are and how you can get involved. National Donor Day is February 14 when all are encouraged to #StartTheConversation. As a Hospice Volunteer, Mallory knows the importance of discussing this topic with your loved ones and will connect this to our work.   2/19, Friday: VC Zoom Presentation: TRU Patient Care Consultants – Chad Hartmann PCC = Patient Care Consultants! They are so much more than sales and marketing.  Join us in meeting with this group to see what all they do for TRU Community Care.   2/23, Tuesday:  Advance Care Planning. Amanda Meier 8am-6pm Our trained volunteers are available throughout the day on February 23rd to help you with advance care planning questions. We can help get you to the right documents, start an important conversation with your family, and offer questions to consider in the time of COVID-19.   Appointments are online or via phone call and last up to one hour. Please note if you prefer a phone appointment. When you sign up, your personal Zoom meeting link will be emailed to you. Due to deeply felt religious beliefs and a long history of discrimination in the U.S., African-American patients are often reluctant to plan for the end of their lives, and more skeptical when doctors suggest stopping treatment. Special correspondent Sarah Varney reports on efforts to change some of those beliefs. Gather with us to watch this short video and engage in some insightful discussion following.   2/27, Saturday: Winter Volunteer Symposium: Family Dynamics and the Volunteer. Jenn Flaum from the Heartlight Center will join us as the main presenter. Following the presentation, we will break into Zoom rooms to discuss and troubleshoot various real-life scenarios that hospice volunteers have experienced with family dynamics.   3/3 Wednesday: TRUvies Movie Night: SOUL - Joe Gardner is a school teacher/pianist who has never been able to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional jazz musician. He finally gets the chance after successfully auditioning for legendary singer Dorothea Williams.. On the day of his big debut, though, Joe is distracted and walks right into an open manhole. Realizing that he's dead and is literally on a conveyor belt moving toward the proverbial white light, Joe hops off, landing in the “Great Before” where new souls are created and sent to Earth. While stuck in the Great Before, Joe contemplates his choices and regrets the existence that he mostly took for granted.
